Our Fight is for the Truth
In the heart of Bangladesh, in the restless summer of JulyโAugust 2024, a student movement was born. What began as an uprising swelled into a tide of people, what began as a revolution blossomed into a peopleโs revolution. To me, it was not just another revolt in historyโit was the finest, the most radiant revolution the world has ever witnessed.
We seek to gather its fragments, preserve its echoes, and write its living memory. For our struggle is not for power, not for glory but for truth. Yet before we touch the wonder and mystery of this July Revolution, let us remember the footsteps of those that came before:
The Industrial Revolution, rising in 1760 England, when fields and forges reshaped the fate of humankind. The American Revolution (1765โ1783), when colonies of North America broke their chains and claimed the dream of freedom. The French Revolution (1789โ1799), a storm that shattered thrones and gave birth to liberty, equality, fraternity. The Russian Revolution (1917), when the Tsarist empire fell to the call of workers and peasants. The Chinese Revolution (1911), ending the long reign of emperors. The Iranian Revolution (1979), birthing a republic of faith from the ruins of monarchy. The Tulip Revolution (2005), a fleeting blaze in Kyrgyzstan, unseating a ruler. The White Revolution (1963), reforms in Iran that sought to remake society. The Cultural Revolution (1966), a vast upheaval in China that tore and remade its culture.
All these, mighty or fleeting, stand as milestones of humanityโs longing for change. And yetโ when you gaze upon them and then turn your eyes to July, you will feel, almost unknowingly, the majesty of our own revolution.
We wish to tell its story not in whispers but in truth; not as myth, but as living history. Walk with us. Stand beside us. Let us carry the flame of truth together.
